Hearst Castle, one of California’s top vacation attractions, is located on Highway 1 along the majestic Central Coast of California. Nestled in the hills above the village of San Simeon, the Castle sits halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles and is approximately a four hour drive from either of these metropolitan areas. You can take a train from Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo and continue to the front door of the Visitor Center by public bus.
From LA:
Take a drive up the US-101 North and get ready to explore California’s Hearst Castle. Exit onto Highway 1 North (CA-1 N), turn right on Santa Rosa St, then cruise over 41 miles until you see signs for Hearst Castle Rd. Follow these directions, plus some signposts along the way, straight into one of California’s most famous attractions.
From San Francisco:
Take a scenic drive on the US-101 South to Paso Robles, then turn right onto CA-46 W/Green Valley Rd. Cruise along Highway 1 North for 12 miles and when you get there make sure to take a sharp right towards Hearst Castle Road which will lead straight up to the castle itself!
