Educational Programs

Educational programs for students at Hearst Castle are a fun, engaging and unforgettable way for students to learn about art, architecture, history and more.  The Educational Program offered by Hearst Castle is curriculum focused and supported by a teacher resource packet that can be accessed online.  The packet provides pre-visit background material and exercises as well as post-visit activities.  The duration of the tour is one hour and forty-five minutes, including the bus trip to and from the hilltop.  Groups up to 54 (including teachers and chaperones) may be accommodated in one time slot. The outdoor Neptune Pool is currently empty due to restoration work in progress.

Currently, Hearst Castle offers an interactive video educational program entitled “Ancient Art in the Collection of William Randolph Hearst.” This is part of the California State Parks  PORTS Program.  It focuses on Greek, Roman and Egyptian works of art in the collection, including ones that illustrate the mythology of the ancient world.  This program is appropriate for all ages studying the ancient world.

Tours for school groups are available by reservation only.  For more information on Hearst Castle Educational Programs, or to make a reservation, please contact Deb Mason at (805) 927-2030.  Hearst Castle is located in California’s Central Coast region halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.

For teachers interested in a more general approach (instead of the curriculum focus), we offer the Grand Rooms Tour at the advantageous educational fee.  Please contact John Fixler at (805) 927-2005 for reservations.
