Hearst Castle Closed Due To Emergency Road Repairs

Due to significant storms that caused damage to the roadway leading up to the Historic Monument, Hearst Castle is temporarily closed. California State Parks is dedicated to making sure that all measures are taken to ensure visitor safety. We have activated an emergency contract process to expedite the necessary road repairs. The work is expected to take 6 to 9 months. Once completed, Hearst Castle will welcome back visitors. To learn more, please visit our News/Projects page.

Hearst Castle tours and the Visitor Center is currently closed. When we reopen, advanced reservations will be required to visit Hearst Castle and/or the Visitor Center

Hearst Castle and the California State Parks are enriched by the many skills and interests that our magnanimous volunteers bring to the parks. Become part of history and Hearst Castle’s future—volunteer your time today.

Living History Program

Bring Hearst Castle to life during spring and fall Evening Tours by becoming a volunteer with Living History Program. In this program, you will dress in 1930s attire to help recreate the time period, then lounge by the Neptune Pool, deal a hand of poker in the Assembly Room, or hurry about as a chef in the Kitchen to help recreate Castle life as it was in W. R. Hearst’s days.

Please refer to the Living History Docent Duty Statement or call (805) 927-2087 or email Denise.King@parks.ca.gov  for more information.
